Due to its considerable fuel consumption (35 liters per 100 km), many post-war civilian GMC users converted their trucks to LPG or diesel. Wellknown European suppliers of diesels were Perkins, Ford, Henschel and Deutz. Paul Hazen compiled the list below showing all the firms providing diesel engines for GMC´s.
* The Henschel 511 was based on the original GMC body
of which the head had been replaced by a stronger one. The fuel injection ** The Ford 6D had been built from 1952 until 1965. *** The OM had 4 cylinders whereas all others had 6. ****in any case types 6.305, 6.288 and 6.354.

Drive via shafts from the tranfer case with either 6x4 (high or low gearing) or 6x6 (low gearing only)

Brake system: non-separated, hydraulic, motor vacuum assisted (‘Hydrovac’) brake drums on all six wheels
Tires: 7.50 x 20 with ply rating 8, usually with ‘non-directional’ profile (Figure 3)
